Tiago spent the night in Heiros containment, trying to crash his way out of a stall-sized partition separating him from the other detained sybals from the earlier riots crammed into every available holding space. He reverted feeling sore and exausted, but the only lingering traces of the previous day’s damages were a faint line of stained blots around his shirt-cuffs where the wrist restraints had cut him—due only to his own rather frantic struggle against them—and a lingering headache.

He returned to his cell wordlessly, in the same suppressed mood as his cellmates and the other detainees—until they began being released. One by one, those who had been arrested or detained were interviewed, processed, fined, and, for the most part, let go.
When Tiago was separated for questioning, the officer interrogating him looked tired, and as if they’d asked their set of questions about a dozen times too many.

“Says here you weren’t found with stolen goods, but were witnessed assaulting someone, then resisted arrest to the point it resulted in assaulting an officer. Do you confirm or deny charges?”

“They were stealing my things!”

The officer gave him a weary look.

“Do you confirm or deny charges?”

“I told them I’d come! If they hadn’t put those cuffs on—”

“Answer the question, sir. Do you confirm or deny charges?”

He swallowed. He had done all of those things, but he hadn’t known how bad it would be.

“Deny,” he said quietly, “I didn’t mean for any of that to happen. Deny.”

The officer’s assistant made a note, and nodded.

“Look, sir, listen to me, you were witnessed attacking someone, and you have a history of assault, and it says here you’ve been investigated under the CAC for insurgent sympathies and suspicious circumstances multiple times. Because this isn’t your first offense, your current sentence would be six weeks, a fine of six mina, and six weeks mandatory community service. If you deny charges you will be held here until a hearing can be scheduled—”  the officer looked to their assistant, who piped in with a date, “—about four  weeks from now, at which time if you are found guilty you will then serve your time.”

He raised a brow at Tiago, and gave him a significant look.

“I repeat, do you confirm or deny charges?”

Tiago’s heart sank, and he slumped back into the chair, feeling cornered. He didn’t want to have another assault on his record, but it sounded as if he had no chance of getting out of the sentence, anyway, and would only be here longer if he fought it. The thought of his time here nearly doubling on the slim chance of being able to convince them he hadn’t meant to assault anyone was a heavy one that seemed to bow his shoulders down.

“O-okay,” he said very quietly, and closed his eyes, trying to keep the defeated quaver from his voice, to little success, “c-confirm. I confirm the charges.”

The officer’s intensity broke, as if he were relieved at the change of answer, and he clapped Tiago on the back.
“Good man.”

The officer nodded to the door guards, who marched him back to his cell, which was empty now, and closed the door on him.

T.T poor Gaucho. Poor tiny lama.
Poor everyone.
I am happy that the ministers try to be fair or even helpful towards him, but I can't help but feel sorry and sad through this!
