Just a leopard...well actually, our local zoo's amur leopard, Vladimir. Very photogenic fellow, I've got quite a few shots of him in my referrence files. Whenever I get frustrated with all the other animals hiding he's always right up at the glass...pacing, frightening small children, etc.
The other day though some kid kept on calling it a 'ZEBRA MOMMY! ZEBRA!" until she finally said, 'no honey, that's a cheetah'
Read the signs people. Obviously not reading descriptions/lack of common sense is widespread beyond dA even. Of course, anyone who gets this far is exempt from that anyway, so there's not really anything to be done now, is there?
I guess I should put technical stuff in here too, for those who care about that kind of thing. It's acrylic on wood, with some micron line on top, because I couldn't resist. Wood is surprisingly forgiving. Sandpaper, my friends, is brilliant.
Ha ha Nice cheetah, I tell ya cheetahs and leopards look nothing a like. Cheetahs do not look anything like any other cat to be honest. I am forgiving when someone mess up a Jaguar and a Leopard (though the heads are completely different)because the spots are similar or should I say rosettes (is the technical for ya), but the jags are bigger, and they are brighter orange.
I am not a big fan of children either, and it is annoying when people let their children but an artist when they are obviously trying to concentrate. I hate when they ask "what are you drawing" when all they have to do is look at the picture. Or even better when you are placing a base color down and they say "why are you color that person purple" and then trying to explain how complementary colors look better for shadows and then you seem the look of their face like "what the heck are you talking about" Sorry I am going on a rant ha ha.

I am in my own little world but that's Ok they all know me there.
Woah, love the subtle stylizing of this guy. He's got a nice proud, firm stance, and the face is just brilliant. Excellent spots as well.
I don't know why people will themselves into ignorance at zoos. A good friend of mine who works down at the San Diego zoo overheard something we've been relentlessly making fun of since: Boy: *pointing to okapis* Look! A zebra! Man: No, those are quagga! They're extinct in the wild.
HAHA I have had the same experience at zoos! I hate that! It's really uncanny, I think I complained about it in my blog in almost exactly the same words. Apparently cassowaries are actually ostriches. And giraffe is spelled girraf. And so on.

lol, well, I do have a soft spot for kids, and I'm actually kind of flattered when one catches me drawing...I don't like it more when parents get all angry at their kids for nothing. Or when they feel obligated to educate them on the differences between cheetahs and zebras.

Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
