Flag and Tallion

Hey guys, meet the new and improved Tallion! Strutti'n her stuff this time as a Dumarian Jatann. You know, something always seemed lacking in her former designs, but I really am happy with this one. Her brother Flag is the one on top. This sheet was originally created 1) for fun and 2)I have only one outdated Jatann ref. and 3) The two make a very minor appearance in the actual book. I was going for a more realistic look, hopefully I didn't edge into TLK style too much, because I'd rather not. Their noses are pushing it though.

A bit about the Jatann species: First off, Yes, they look like clouded leopards. That was semi-on-purpose and it's fine by me, I adore their coats and this kind of spots just totally fits them. They're supposed to be built very similar to a couga, with a bit of snow leopard thrown in, as they are a mountain dwalling cat. These two live in a gryphon city built in a canyon Griffinai, Lao, Tane, & Seylan cross. The name of the city I'm not quite sure on yet, I've got a few possibilities rolling around, my favorite of which was Riverwend or Rivermeld (as i's built above the convergence of two rivers) but they both sound similar to 'Rivendell' to me, so I'm still thinking. So...that's the reason they're both wearing stuff; Flag's got an earring, tail ring (which was super fun to draw), and two paw-cross-things and Talli's got earrings and a little pouch, both of which are fairly common for the city dwelling Jatann. Flag's a bit more of an elaborate dresser because he's a honey-catcher (as in...the food) and he can afford to be, cos it's a gryphon delicacy. Hokay, rambling! :3 Ya know what gave me the most trouble though? Belly-flap. I just love all the loose skin cougars and snow leopards have under their bellies; but do you have any idea how hard it is to draw that without making them look fat? Gah! The foreshortening on Flags paws was the devil to do as well, thank goodness for sketching in red pencil or I would have never gotten the sketch marks off in photoshop!

Stinky ten minute sepia coloring job because I hate just doing plain white but I've vowed not to do any more finished colored pieces for myself until my two commissions and ~wadifahtook's trade are done. I've got a start on all three and just need to sit my butt in front of the computer long enough to finish them.
