Description

Well, I should go work on my business folder more instead of uploading here, but I've already been staring at it for sooo looong.

So yeah. Final for my digital illustration class. This was actually a reallly fun assignment to do: come up with four instruments from an archeological dig of a made up place. Can't wait to see what the rest of the class came up with tomorrow, it's gonna be good.

Anyway, I couldn't resist doing something from that possibly-existant book I've been writing for the last decade.

Captions are (since, yeah, at this size, the text is a little obscure) :
1. Howl Dish:
These stones were used for communication among the argren: the sound waves howled into the parabolic dish are concentrated, then received in a corresponding dish, enabling he sound to travel long distances. It is uncertain how they first came into use, but they show cooperation between races, as they were clearly not carved by the argren themselves.
2. Harp:
This intact harp was found in the burial cave of a wealthy jatann lord, and is probably carved in his likeness. The presence of the harp suggests that servants were employed, and the quantity of luxury items found suggests that this may have been a Lore Keeper's grave.
3.Guiro:
These coragil-shaped 'guiros' are a common find around coastal areas. Supposedly used for communication; two strikers were used in tandem to reproduce their complex, resonant clicking language. Experimentation prompted the coragils to raise their heads above water, but no more.
The pearl handle and shell inlay on this piece are unusual.
4.Tree Chimes:
These cast bronze tree chimes would have hung from low hanging tree branches in sets. Wear on the length of the chimes suggests they were played by a unicorn-like race by striking them with their horns.
Whole sets of these chimes could have been used by herds.
